Northern Beaches Private Hospital invites General Practitioners to attend this live, online and interactive meeting.

The first half of the activity will provide an overview of the medical, psychological & social impacts of chronic pain & addiction. Discuss taking a comprehensive pain/addiction history in realistic GP timelines, as well as red flags during patient requests for pharmacological management. Discuss long-term treatment & whether the WHO hierarchy of treatment for chronic pain is relevant for today. Discuss new treatments for opioid-seeking patients with a history of chronic pain, & provide practical tips & referral pathways.

The second half will look at the challenges of treating depression, treatment options & major advantages of using TMS & new protocols such as Theta Burst stimulation.

Through this activity, GP's will be able to:

1. Identify the medical, psychological and social impacts of chronic pain and addiction
2. Take a comprehensive pain/addiction history in realistic GP timelines
3. Identify red flags in patient requests for pharmacological management
4. Interpret new treatments for patients and referral pathways
5. Recognise the treatment options for depression and the advantages of TMS.

Dr Jonathan Adams
General Practitioner @Northern Beaches Medical Centre
Jon grew up in New Zealand but moved to Sydney to study Medicine at the University of Sydney in 2002. He has worked as a GP since 2009 and completed his General Practice Fellowship in Far North NSW in 2010. He has worked both in Australia and overseas as a GP. He has served the Northern Beaches community since 2015. Jon is the Principal GP at Northern Beaches Medical Centre and was the General Practitioner involved in setting up the practice before Northern Beaches Hospital opened. He enjoys all aspects of General practice but has a particular interest in Paediatrics having completed the Diploma in Child Health. He enjoys trail running, mountain biking and swimming.
Dr Mark Hardy
Addiction Specialist and Psychiatris @Northern Beaches Private Hospital
Dr Mark Hardy is an addiction specialist and psychiatrist, passionate about the evidence-based management of addictions in our community. After training at Kirketon Road Centre, The Langton Centre and Northern Sydney LHD, he is now a Consulting VMO across multiple sites in Sydney, including Northern Beaches Hospital, The Hills Private Hospital and The Sydney Clinic. He manages both inpatients and outpatients at these sites, while looking for new opportunities in treatment, education and liaison across the Sydney Metro Region and beyond. Dr Hardy has trained and commenced prescribing medicinal cannabinoids for chronic pain, palliative care, epilepsy and mood disorders, according to the NSW and National guidelines. This new and exciting part of his practice also adds dimensions of therapeutic management, advocacy, research and clinical leadership to his professional career.
Dr Vladimir Sazhin
Consultant Psychiatrist @Northern Beaches Private Hospital
Dr Vladimir Sazhin is an experienced consultant psychiatrist with expertise in treating patients with mood disorders, including treatment-resistant depression and Bipolar Affective Disorder, severe anxiety disorders, and transcultural psychiatry. He specialises in the use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for the treatment of treatment resistant depression. Dr Sazhin has worked extensively in the public and private sectors and sees patients from 16 years of age upwards.
