Caleb started his career in space as a journalist, first at Via Satellite and later at SpaceNews, before joining Quilty Analytics where he publishes research reports on the space industry. Ryan Stevenson, Ph.D. (Vice President and Chief Scientist @Kymeta) As a founding member of Kymeta, Ryan has worked on the development of Kymeta technology since 2011. He brought an extensive background in RF/microwave engineering, photonics, and semiconductor manufacturing to his role. Ryan leads R&D and Intellectual Property for Kymeta. Prior to joining Kymeta, he held leadership roles in research science and system analytics in the government, public sector and aerospace markets. It was in these markets that Ryan honed his skills in managing cross functional initiatives that brought together engineering, hardware, software and technical disciplines to deliver reliable, innovative systems architectures. His early career successes in integrated photonics, antennas, and communications system modelling set the stage for today’s efforts at Kymeta. Ryan holds a B.S. in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California. Lukas Nyström (Chief Technical Officer @Satcube) Chief Technology Officer at Satcube AB. Lukas has been with Satcube for 5+ years. He is currently responsible for the product development, including defining the road map and selecting suitable technologies for multi-orbit, multi-frequency applications. His main focus is on highly efficient antenna and transceiver design, to enable high SWaP-C and Mbps/W broadband terminals. In addition, he leads Satcube’s extensive collaboration efforts with leading European universities. This includes 10+ ongoing industry-academia projects on low-loss and active antenna technologies, covering both national and international research consortiums. He acts as the supervisor for five industrial PhD students on active antenna research. Lukas holds: M.Sc & B.Sc in Engineering Physics from Chalmers University of Technology; and M.Sc & B.Sc in Accounting and Financial Management from Gothenburg University, School of Business, Economics and Law. Dr Gavin Cox (R&D Engineering Manager @Global Invacom) Dr Gavin Cox is R&D Engineering Manager at Global Invacom Group. He has been working in the satellite industry for over 20 years in various key antenna design engineering roles at several of the leading suppliers/manufacturers to the industry. He designs of C and Ku antenna systems for a variety of end use cases, and is responsible for the innovative design solutions used by the most satellite operators. In his current role with the company, Dr Cox has been appointed as a Co-chair of GVF’s Technology Working Group. Dr Cox holds a PhD from Loughborough University. Todd Brown (Director of Business Development @AvL Technologies) Todd Brown joined AvL after a successful career with the U.S. Department of Defense as a proven leader in AvL’s key markets and the communications industry. His sustained performance was awarded the Special Operations Command Civilian Communicator of the Year for 2020. His background includes managing future satellite and terminal architecture for the premier unit in the DoD, the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). Previous positions included program management of satellite systems for the Joint Communications Unit (JCU); during this tenure he was awarded Civilian of the Quarter during three consecutive years culminating in the award for Civilian of the Year for 2012. Mr. Brown also served as Telecommunications Manager and was promoted to JSOC headquarters to manage the Satellite Architecture and associated Terminal Development Program within the JSOC J6 Development Transmissions Division, a position held since 2013.
