Immigrant experiences in Canada – Overcoming barriers & settling successfully
Being an immigrant can be a challenging experience. Some of the most common concerns include language barriers, finding employment, culture shock and social isolation. However, despite obstacles, many newcomers to Canada achieve success in their job search, settlement and integration here. In this session, we welcome three Next Stop Canada mentors, who were once newcomers to the country, to share their experiences as well as tips for immigrants to successfully settle and find employment in Canada.

Guest speakers:

Bernadette Abad (Finance and Accounting) - “My secret to success is that I always have a positive outlook in life. I would always try to see the brighter side of things and not dwell in difficulties. Aside from this, my determination is unwavering. Despite falling down several times, I would always get back up and return with more willpower. I’m very passionate and dedicated to whatever I do, and I love to help people.”

Leo Gubac (Marketing and Communications) - “Being a mentor allows me to pass along my experience and the knowledge that I have gained to new immigrants. We are all in this journey together, and all of us would benefit from shared knowledge.”

Rakshak Maini (Sales and Marketing) - “I attribute my success to always doing smart work over hard work. Always believe in yourself and never give up your aspirations as there is always light at the end of the tunnel.”
