When Annual Reviews introduced Subscribe to Open (S20), they introduced an alternative way to convert subscription journals to open access, with a model that isn’t reliant on Article Processing Charges (APCs). Since then, more publishers have taken up the S20 model recognizing that certain journal titles and subject communities require a different path to transition to open access. This panel will include a selection of publishers that are exploring S20 for their portfolios. We will discuss the reasons why they chose to test the model, the pros and cons, and future prospects.
