Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. Almost 70% of these cases remain un-diagnosed.
PCOS can be associated with irregular menstrual cycles, excessive facial and body hair growth, acne, obesity, reduced fertility and increased risk of diabetes. PCOS is also a common cause of infertility as many small fluid-filled sacs begin to grow inside the ovaries.
However not every woman with PCOS will experience the same symptoms, each woman will have her own individual experience. Just as the symptoms will differ from person to person, treatment and management is also unique to each individual.
With early diagnosis and management many women are able to greatly reduce their symptoms and the long-term effects of PCOS.
