Revolution in the air or Just a Fad? The role of HRM during workers’ silent and vocal protest

Are we currently witnessing a revolutionary movement of silent and vocal protests? Towards the end of lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic organisations in western countries witnessed a great resignation with employees quitting their jobs. This was followed by a phenomenon labeled as ‘Quiet Quitting’ a form of silent protest where workers do the least amount of work to retain their job and do not go beyond that. Currently, due to the ‘Cost of Living Crisis’, we are witnessing walkouts from a number of primarily public sector jobs in response to a lack of response from employers to high levels of inflation.
