The Jackson Center again welcomes electoral college expert Edward B. Foley for a free webinar on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 3:00 pm.

Ned will take us through whether and how the Electoral College functioned in our most recent election, as well as provide updates and arguments for and against electoral college reform in light of this. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions, and the webinar will be recorded.

Foley (Charles W. Ebersold and Florence Whitcomb Ebersold Chair in Constitutional Law; Director, Election Law at Ohio State @The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law) Edward B. Foley holds the Ebersold Chair in Constitutional Law at The Ohio State University, where he also directs its election law program. His new book, Presidential Elections and Majority Rule (Oxford University Press, 2020), excavates the long-forgotten philosophical premises of how the Electoral College is supposed to work, as revised by the Twelfth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and then uses this historical analysis to provide a feasible basis for reform of state laws that would enable the Electoral College to operate according to majority-rule objectives it was designed to achieve. His book Ballot Battles: The History of Disputed Elections in the United States (Oxford University Press, 2016) was named Finalist for the David J. Langum, Sr. Prize in American Legal History and listed as one of 100 “must-read books about law and social justice”. Kristan McMahon (President @The Robert H. Jackson Center) Kristan McMahon has served as President of the Robert H. Jackson Center since April 2019. McMahon is a former principal with Vetted Solutions, an executive search firm specializing in association and nonprofit recruiting and consulting in Washington D.C. where she helped guide a transformational process for the company’s executive searches. Previously, McMahon was corporate counsel for Verizon in Arlington, VA where she advised all business entities on a variety of antitrust issues, including deal analysis and compliance with antitrust/competition laws for a global Fortune 15 company. Before joining Verizon, McMahon served as a Staff Attorney for Howrey LLP, where she was part of a team leading government investigations and litigations for numerous global Fortune 500 companies.
