Cervical Screening in General Practice and Obesity in Pregnancy
The Northpark Private Hospital invites General Practitioners to attend this live, online and interactive meeting presented by Dr Midia Alias and Dr Sahar Abdullah, and hosted by Charmayne Thompson.

This update has been developed with a dual focus:

• To assist GP’s in correctly navigating the new cervical screening program and understanding the differences to screening recommendations with respects to different patient populations.
• To assist GP in their management of obese patients prior to and during pregnancy.

Learning Outcomes:

Through this activity, GP's will be able to:

1. Know the differences between the older cervical screening regime and the new/ current screening regime;
2. Be aware of the differences in Cervical Screening recommendations for different patient populations eg: in immune-deficient patients or early sexual activity or child abuse patients;
3. How best to assist patients to manage their weight prior to conception and during pregnancy which in turn will reduce the patient’s risk of obesity-related complications during pregnancy;
4. Knowing ways in which to best manage the obese, pregnant patient including knowing when to refer to other care providers.

Healthscope is a CPD education provider under the RACGP CPD Program.

Dr Midia Alias is an, Australian trained, Specialist with extensive experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and has trained in various institutions in Victoria and New South Wales, promoting collaborative medical and midwifery care as well as quality assurance activities. She is passionate about providing patient-focused care, with emphasis on overall wellbeing and holistic approach to prepare for pregnancy. Midia is fluent in Arabic and Chaldean. Midia consults, operates and delivers at Northpark Private Hospital in Bundoora.
Dr Sahar Abdullah MBChB FRANZCOG
Obstetrician and Gynaecologists @Northpark Private Hospital
Dr. Sahar Abdullah a highly experienced Obstetrician, having delivered more than 1000 babies in Australia and overseas. Sahar is originally from Iraq, where she completed 7 years training in Baghdad before moving to Australia in 1998. In 2003 she travelled to the UK to complete her MRCOG before returning to Australia where she obtained her fellowship from RANZCOG. Sahar undertook her training through the Royal Women’s Hospital and her last year of advanced training in laparoscopy and uro-gynaecology, at Box Hill Hospital. Sahar takes responsibility for patient care during and after pregnancy, and typically takes a natural approach unless medical intervention. She is a member of the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery Society (AGES). Sahar also hold a position at Monash Universitry as association educator. Dr Abdullah consults, delivers and operates at Northpark Private Hospital.
Charmayne Thompson
General Manager @Northpark Private Hospital
Charmayne is currently the General Manager at Healthscope’s Northpark Private Hospital in Bundoora. She has been a senior health executive across the private, public and not for profit healthcare sectors for 10 years plus. Managing and leading teams to achieve Key success criteria is part of her suite of skills. Charmayne is passionate about developing and supporting managers to lead teams in the provision of excellent patient care outcomes amidst a great workplace culture.
