Everything you need to know about HPV and pregnancy
Description
Join our upcoming webinar to learn everything you need to know about HPV and pregnancy. HPV lesion treatment is known to be associated with obstetrical complications and now HPV infection in pregnancy has also been linked to obstetrical complications. In this session, the speakers will review the literature to concentrate on new findings about HPV and pregnancy including the role of HPV vaccination.
During this webinar, Maria Kyrgiou (UK) will talk about the effect of HPV infection, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and local treatment procedures on subsequent preterm delivery and fertility.
Helen Trottier (Canada) will present on placental HPV infection and whether it could be related to preterm birth. Helen will share experimental data about the effect of HPV on trophoblastic cells and findings on HPV and preterm birth from the HERITAGE study.
To end the session, Karen Canfell and Susan Yuill will present epidemiological data on the impact of HPV primary screening and HPV vaccination on adverse pregnancy outcomes.

She has trained in obstetrics and gynaecology and subsequently specialised in advanced minimal access and gynaecologic oncology at the West London Gynaecological Cancer Centre at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The main focus of her academic interests has been in translational research in gynaecological diseases and cancers, in particular cervical and endometrial cancer. She has investigated the role of treatment of cervical cancer and precancer in reproductive outcomes and the clinical use of HPV biomarkers in personalising the management of women with abnormal findings at screening. She has developed an interest on the role of microbiome and host interactions in gynaecological cancer. She works on the role of obesity and metabolic disorders in endometrial cancer. Helen Trottier (Associate Professor @Université de Montréal and Sainte-Justine University Hospital center) Dr. Helen Trottier is a professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the Université de Montréal and an epidemiologist and researcher at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Research Center. Her epidemiological research focuses on the area of infectious diseases, particularly vaccine-preventable diseases and infectious diseases that cause cancer such as human papillomavirus (HPV). She directs a major research program on the impact of HPV on mothers and children. Her interests include perinatal transmission of HPV and the impact of HPV during pregnancy. Karen Canfell (Professor and Director @The Daffodil Centre at the University of Sydney) Karen Canfell is an epidemiologist, modeller, and a translationally-focused population health researcher. She works across many countries to evaluate cervical cancer prevention and control and to support countries in implementation efforts. She also co-leads Compass, a major Australia RCT of cervical screening in an HPV-vaccinated population. Her team performed the first modelling of elimination in any country, and her work as one of the co-leads of the WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Modelling Consortium on elimination supported the formal resolution by WHO to eliminate cervical cancer globally. Elisabeth McClymont (Moderator) (Postdoctoral Fellow @University of British Columbia, Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology, Canada) Dr. Elisabeth McClymont is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at l’Université de Montréal. She has a BA in Health Science from Simon Fraser University (2015) and a PhD from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of British Columbia (2020). For her doctoral thesis, she explored various aspects of HPV vaccination in women living with HIV, including vaccine immunogenicity, efficacy, and dose spacing. As a PhD Candidate, she was the recipient of multiple awards including the Dr. Bernard Duval Award for Vaccination and the Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology (IDSOG) Young Investigator of the Year. Susan Yuill (PhD Candidate and systematic reviewer @The Daffodil Centre, University of Sydney, Australia) Dr Susan Yuill MBBS MMed (Clin Epi) FRACGP is a PhD Candidate and systematic reviewer at the Daffodil Centre, University of Sydney. Her thesis is examining the impact of HPV vaccination on adverse pregnancy outcomes. As a systematic reviewer, she has worked on reviews which informed the clinical guidelines to support the introduction of primary HPV testing in Australia and she has contributed to a review of the accuracy of triage tests in women who are positive on HPV screening tests. She has a background in general practice with an interest in women’s health and paediatrics.
