Leading Your Teams to Renew
What do Extinction Rebellion and Horatio Nelson have in common?

What can we learn from them as we work to ensure our organisations survive and thrive in the current situation?

What do our leaders need to focus on to make that happen?

It’s an understatement to say we are living in a time of disruptive change, a change the like of which none of us have experienced before. Often change happens in an organisation or industry in relative isolation. This time we’ve all experienced disruption: our teams, our processes, our suppliers and our customers.

Workplaces are different, expectations are different, our team dynamics have changed. What does this mean for leaders? How do leaders need to be when their role is now to lead dispersed teams in a disrupted environment when the road ahead is so uncertain?

Over the last few months, we have considered the first three steps through the Roadmap to Uncertainty: Stabilise, Sustain and Return. This time we’re looking to the future and exploring the fourth step: Renew.

With furlough coming to an end, schools fully opening and organisations re-defining and re-shaping the way they work, it’s time to think about how we re-focus and re-energise so that surviving can lead our teams to a renewed focus, a renewed purpose and renewed energy.

We’ll look at two of the key elements that people need from leaders now: Purpose and Courage. We’ll investigate why they’re critical for this Renew phase, how to develop them and how to use them most effectively.
