Supporting Immigrant Families for School Success
"We have teachers able to teach, but there is so much other support needed around those teachers to help kids and their families thrive." - Ilana Steinhauer

Supporting immigrant families poses unique challenges. Those challenges can be hard to address when time is short and resources are tight. That's why Ready4K invites you to learn from a team that's succeeding with one of the hardest to reach populations.

In this session, you will hear:

- The questions every school leader should ask immigrant families when they become part of your community
- The hidden barriers you'll want to address to help immigrant students succeed
- Easy-to-do actions for helping immigrant families feel at home in a new school

Speaker America Lopez, Immigrant Family Liaison for the Berkshire Hills School District, is a community leader and first generation Mexican immigrant. She brings direct experience identifying and addressing hurdles within the system.

Ilana Steinhauer, Executive Director for Volunteers In Medicine Berkshires, is a health advocate and family nurse practitioner. She shares what she has learned from working closely with community organizations to address the unique needs of the immigrant population she serves.

Sneak Peak: You will also hear how they were able to address attendance issues through a collaborative approach.
