Lunch with the Experts: György Kepes
Join MIT Museum curator Gary Van Zante for an intimate exploration of the artist, educator, and theorist György Kepes. The Hungarian-born artist trained as a painter in Budapest before moving to Berlin, where he was invited to join the design studio of László Moholy-Nagy. Kepes followed Moholy to Chicago to teach at the New Bauhaus (now Insitute of Design) and in 1944 published Language of Vision, an influential book about design and design education. He was the first artist on staff at MIT, and in 1967 Kepes founded MIT’s Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS), the influential laboratory for interdisciplinary art practice and artistic research.
