Before social media existed at the scale that it has in recent years, content moderation was typically conducted by communities, volunteers, or in-house by companies. Yet, nowadays freedom of speech on social media is subject to a complex system of governance. A great deal of public conversation is instead regulated by privately-owned corporations. Some of the topics to be discussed: challenges of new models of content moderation; content moderation and hate speech, extremism, harassment and disinformation.
The event will be held in English, with simultaneous translation into Albanian, B/C/S/M and Macedonian.
