Virtual Family Fun Night: A Day in the Life of Literacy

Description

Did you know that your daily routine is FULL of easy opportunities to build early reading skills? Bring your young learners to this 1-hour workshop led by early education expert and veteran children’s performer, Rebecca Honig. She will demonstrate how to turn everyday moments into literacy moments.

This dynamic event will include:
* Songs
* Act Along Stories
* A visit from some special guests, including The Big Fancy Word Lady and Sound DJ-the rhyming puppet.

And bring your parenting questions! Rebecca will be joined by NYC DOE's own Rachel Cohen to help with ideas and suggestions to solve everyday parenting challenges.

She has authored numerous curricula, parent guides, and children's storybooks for Sesame Workshop, Scholastic, Disney, Compass Learning, PBS, WGBH, HITN, Nickelodeon, Mo Willems, and The Norman Rockwell Museum. She has also served as a Curriculum and Content Specialist for Sesame Street and spent ten years teaching in public, private, and after school programs. Rebecca has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Bank Street. Rachel Cohen (Family Empowerment & Community Partnerships @NYC DOE) Rachel Cohen serves on the Family Empowerment and Community Partnerships team at the NYC Division of Early Childhood Education. As the Family Resources Associate, she brings high quality resources to all early childhood families throughout the city. Rachel has a research background in early childhood education, and has served as an early childhood and elementary school educator through Teach for America. Rachel has also worked at the National Center for Children and Families where she contributed to peer-reviewed research on the different early childhood settings throughout New York City. She has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Policy from Teachers College.
