Dr. Kenneth J. Cavanaugh Jr. has been employed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Devices and Radiological Health since 2003. From 2016 – 2017, he was part of the 21st Mansfield Fellowship class and completed placements in Tokyo with the Ministry for Health, Labour, and Welfare; Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency; Agency for Medical Research and Development; and the Japanese Federation of Medical Device Associations. His fellowship goals were to build on his experience promoting the development of innovative medical devices and access to safe and effective medical therapies in the U.S. and Japan, and forge greater ties between government agencies, academic centers, and industry members in this area. He is currently the Deputy Director of FDA’s Office of Cardiovascular Devices and continues to contribute to international efforts intended to harmonize medical device regulatory pathways and clinical strategies.
