Birds in Culture - A lecture demonstration on Birds of India: Company Paintings c. 1800-1835 by Dr. Giles Tillotson
Between the late 18th and early 19th century the East India Company commissioned unknown masters to create detailed studies of Indian Birds. These 125 paintings stand out not only for the incredible detailing but also for illustrating the evolution of Company paintings from patronage to popular art, through a single theme. The Indian Music Experience in partnership with Royal Opera House and Avid Learning invites you for an illustrated talk by art historian, writer and curator Dr. Giles Tillotson, where he will delve into the history and stylistic influences of these works, and discuss their contribution to ornithological studies.
