A New Idea of Design: Enhancing Local Heritage As a Restart Tool - A webinar with Arch. Luisa Bocchietto
The concept of design was born out of the Bauhaus movement which flourished in Germany in the 1920s. For the past 100 years, this concept has rested on the two pillars of Form and Function, and on the continued dramatic tension between them.
Today we operate in a different context: we live in the middle of a new revolution, the digital one, which is changing the very essence of the relationship between planning, production, logistics and communication. As a consequence, the concept of design has undergone a dramatic change. We now have to add a third pillar to support it: sustainability. Environmental sustainability as well as social and economic sustainability.
Arch. Bocchietto will discuss these themes and provide examples of this new way to conceive design, with a couple of projects recently launched in the Etruscan city of Volterra, in Tuscany, giving evidence of the Italian ability to use creativity to enhance matter by revitalizing its local context.
