Brain Drain: Using Negative Pressure and Vibration to Enhance Neurolymphatic Pathways
Guest Speaker Louisa Boyd. OTR/CLT-LANA

Louisa Boyd is anOccupational Therapist thatspecializes in Lymphedema and breast cancerrehabilitation. She is also aninstructor for Monarch Training and Consulting for Applications of Neuro-lymphatic Therapy and for the Central New Mexico
University Intelligent Pressure Program. She is a retired member of the Board of
Directors for the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA) and a member of the National Lymphedema Network. She recently presented as a faculty speaker
on MLD Pressure variability among healthcare practitioners at the NLN 2020 conference.

Key Message: Discovery of brain lymphatics and their waste clearance function delivers new insights into the application of
lymphatic drainage in populations not traditionally served in lymphatic therapies. Harnessing the benefits of our manual treatments, NPMT and vibration offers us new opportunities to enhance patient outcomes and quality of life, specifically in the symptoms of brain fog such as sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, cognition, and participation in meaningful life tasks.

Key learning points:
1.Our brain lymphatic system works similarly to our body lymphatics in waste clearance. Congestion creates impairments in brain function.
2. Neuroinflammation is a key factor in many conditions that rely on optimal clearance of amyloid beta proteins in the glymphatic system.
3.The use of lymphatic drainage pathways may be enhanced using negative pressure and vibration to optimize waste clearance and improve symptoms of “brain fog.”
