Psychological Practice with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming (T/GNC) Service Members and Veterans
PRESENTED BY
Jacob Eleazer, Ph.D. served in the Army National Guard for 12 years and was among the first actively serving transgender soldiers to come out publicly in 2014. He advocates for access to care for transgender military personnel as the Director of Advocacy for SPART*A, A Professional Association for Transgender Service Members. Jacob completed his doctorate in counseling psychology at the University of Louisville in 2019 and is currently a postdoctoral fellow in LGBT Health and Psychosocial Rehabilitation at the Connecticut VA Healthcare System.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This program will review clinical guidelines, standards of care, and resources relevant to psychological practice with transgender and gender nonconforming (T/GNC) Service Members and Veterans. The presenter will discuss the impact of proximal and distal minority stressors unique to gender identity and intersecting marginalized identities on T/GNC persons’ well-being, clinical presentation, and engagement in care. The potential impact of military-related stressors, along with helpful community supports and resources will be discussed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Identify clinical guidelines, standards of care, and resources relevant to psychological practice with transgender and gender nonconforming (T/GNC) Service Members and Veterans.
2. Assess the potential impact of proximal and distal minority stressors unique to gender identity and intersecting marginalized identities on T/GNC persons’ wellbeing, clinical presentation, and engagement in care.
3. Assess the potential impact of military-related stressors on T/GNC persons’ wellbeing, clinical presentation, and engagement in care.
4. Identify helpful community supports and resources available for transgender Service Members and Veterans.
