Patricio F. Reyes, M.D. is the Chief of Neurology and the Director of Traumatic Brain Injury, Alzheimer’s Disease & Cognitive Disorders Clinic at the Carl. T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix. Dr. Reyes has seen first-hand the physical tolls that caring for someone with dementia can take on the body of the family caregiver. In his first few months of practice, he almost lost three different caregivers in his office due to heart attacks. Fortunately, they all survived, but it made him realize and appreciate even more the invaluable role of family caregivers and how important it is to not only care for the patients, but also the caregivers. He shares, “Each passing day I shall strive to offer the best care I can to persons with dementia AND their caregivers.” Join us for an insightful conversation with Dr. Reyes to learn how to meet the most common challenges of caregiving that lead to a healthier and meaningful caregiving journey.
