Did you know that grizzly bears nearly disappeared from the lower 48 states?
More than 50,000 grizzly bears once roamed western North America, but by 1975 there was only an estimated 700-800 individuals left. Today, there are six identified recovery zones aimed to support the recovering grizzly bear population. However, these smaller islands of habitat are not big enough to ensure that bears will retain the diversity that keeps them genetically healthy for years to come.
For years Y2Y and partners have worked to recover grizzly populations and improve wildlife corridors. But bringing grizzly bears back onto the landscape is no easy task. Come and listen to Yellowstone to Yukon’s Senior U.S. Program Coordinator Nick Clarke as he speaks to the challenges, and solutions, to reconnecting grizzly bears across the northern U.S. Rockies. You won't want to miss out on this collaborative event!
