The Impact of Digital Health Technologies on the Delivery of Maternal and Child Health Services; A Case Study of Uganda.
The role of mothers in our societies is critical and ensuring their safety during pregnancy, childbirth, and after childbirth is a key focus for Ministries of Health across countries. Digital health technologies have gained momentum over the past years in their application to health promotion. As we advance with the adoption of digital technologies in public health intervention it, is important to understand their actual potential and the conditions necessary for their success. With funding from the RIGHT Foundation, Compelling Works Limited conducted a study on the impact of digital health technologies on the delivery of maternal and child health services, a case study of Uganda.
The study sought to assess the potential public health value of digital health technologies and the conditions and approaches under which digital tools can strengthen public health and expand the quality, affordability, and accessibility of health services. The study focused on the FamilyConnect application, which the Ministry of Health in Uganda had rolled out as a behavioral change tool aimed at nudging mothers to seek the medical help they need during pregnancy and during the first 1000 days after childbirth. The study covered 9 districts: Moroto, Abim, Kaberamaido, Kamuli, Oyam, Gulu, Masindi, Kabale, and Kampala-Makindye division.
