Before the country implemented a massive lockdown due to Covid-19 outbreak, the Philippine Department of Energy was busy preparing to implement the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EE&C Act) which not only addresses energy savings in LGUs but also targets a big chunk of the country’s climate change mitigation goals. This past February, the IKI-MI project realized a Domestic Technical Consultation with representatives from 14 LGUs across the nation, along with the Department of Energy and other key stakeholders, to discuss: What are the specific coordination and capacity challenges faced by the LGUs to implement and comply with the EE&C Act? How do LGUs existing plans create or hinder climate change investment opportunities? What would a registry to monitor bottom-up EE investments and energy savings, or other GHG mitigation activities look like? Will local environmental officers take on an active role in implementing the EE&C Act in their local levels?
The webinar will discuss the roles and responsibilities of Philippine Local Government Units (LGUs) in complying with recently enacted national laws on energy efficiency at the local level to achieve the NDC.
