Braving the Cold: Climate, Competition, and Collaboration in the Arctic Sea Lanes
With sea lanes opening in the Arctic, a new race for resources has created opportunities for both cooperation and competition among Arctic nations and great powers alike. With Russia assuming the rotating chair of the Arctic Council this year, how will this impact Arctic diplomacy? What role will climate change play in these negotiations? How will U.S. competition with Russia impact agreements over Arctic waterways and resources? To answer these questions and yours, FPRI has assembled a panel of experts on Arctic Policy. Joining host Saleem Ali for the next installment of the First State Series will be former NASA Scientist Anthony Strawa, Russian Energy Policy Expert Roman Sidortsov, and the U.S. Naval War College's Rebecca Pincus. The First State Series is a collaboration between FPRI and the University of Delaware. Hosted by Dr. Saleem Ali, this series draws on FPRI’s vast network of scholars and outside experts to highlight the intersection of ecology, the environment, and foreign policy. Dr. Ali is an environmental security scholar who holds the Blue and Gold Distinguished Professorship in Energy and the Environment at the University of Delaware and is also a Senior Fellow at Columbia University’s Center on Sustainable Investment.
