This webinar will begin with an introduction and an update for the FDT membership from the Director on the activities of the Faculty. This will be followed by a presentation from the University of Leeds on their experience with training during the COVID-19 Pandemic using the Simodont Dental Trainer to prepare their dental students to return to treating patients and to support clinical teaching. There will follow a panel discussion exploring the benefits and disadvantages of simulation training and how the use of haptics could develop in dental education and training. Participants will be welcomed to join in the panel discussion.
This session aims to:
1) Inform participants about the activities of the Faculty of Dental Trainers and their new tools for assessing human factors during dental training.
2) Describe the experience of a dental school with providing training using a dental simulator to prepare students for treating patients.
3) Explore the role of haptics in dental training taking into account human factors and communication skills.
