Resilience & responsibility: Labour's vision for the post-Covid economy | Bridget Phillipson MP, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition
Bridget Phillipson MP grew up in Sunderland and after university worked briefly in economic regeneration for Sunderland Council before managing a refuge for victims of domestic violence. She entered Parliament as MP for Houghton & Sunderland South in 2010 and served as an opposition whip under Ed Miliband. After the 2015 general election she joined the Public Accounts Committee, and in April 2020 she was appointed to Keir Starmer’s Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, working closely with Anneliese Dodds, the Shadow Chancellor. She has a particular responsibility for ensuring fiscal discipline across the frontbench, and building confidence in Labour’s economic strategy. She is keen to hear from businesses across the country about the challenges they face in the months and years ahead, to help develop Labour’s thinking on the economic policies and frameworks the next Labour government will need to put in place.
