Using multiple fraction representations to build a foundation of success in mathematics
Did you know ACARA will begin its review of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics in July this year, with the aim of refining, realigning and decluttering the content?
There is considerable research (Siegler, 2012, 2015, 2016) to show that success in high school mathematics is closely correlated with student’s confidence with fractions, so this is one area that it expected to see greatest changes.
This short webinar (approx. 30 mins) will introduce and explore the four different representations of fractions that must be covered in the primary grades and why each is so critical. In so doing, you will be better prepared to monitor how each representation will either support or interfere with students’ understanding of fraction concepts.
