The Role of Parliaments in Public Debt Management and Transparency
The National Democratic Institute (NDI), in partnership with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), is pleased to invite you to join a webinar on April 26, 2022 from 9-10:30am ET/15:00-16:30 CET on the role of parliaments in public debt management.

As the representative body of the people, legislative institutions are vital to national fiscal accountability to ensure government spending decisions align with citizen priorities. In many countries, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, parliaments found themselves sidelined during national spending decisions, including oversight of loan approval processes and loan-financed projects. In order to raise awareness regarding the vital role and good practices of legislatures, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) developed four briefs on the role of parliamentarians in public debt management.

This webinar will highlight the importance of parliament’s role in public debt oversight, in addition to specific entry points for enhancing parliaments’ role in fiscal accountability. It will feature experiences of members of parliament and experts on this topic, and present the policy briefs developed by NDI and WFD.

Simultaneous interpretation in English, Spanish, and French will be available during the webinar.
