This session will be a live a workshop of three pieces composed by three young composers who attended the 2020 Sound and Music Summer School.
The session will bring these young voices of composition together with Judith Weir, one of the leading women composers in the UK today, as they listen to their music and discuss the composition process live.
Judith Weir’s work spans many genres from folk music to opera. She has worked as resident composer to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers, and currently holds the 400-year old royal appointment of Master of The Queen’s Music, the first woman to do so.
Maddie is 16 and absolutely loves composing and is really passionate about helping as many other people to enjoy it too! Generally she composes classical music, and loves exploring how to write for different instruments. She hopes that more young people like her will listen to and compose classical music as there is such a glorious variety! In her spare time she also enjoys playing saxophone and piano.
