In shatteRED, Rafa learns to love himself after a turbulent relationship with his partner Pablo. The play follows the scattered memories of Rafa as he attempts to put the pieces of his life back together after he realizes that his match with Pablo is not a match made in heaven but a case of toxic love.
Damon R. Carbajal (he/him/el) is a gay, queer, Chicanx playwright, educator, scholar, and activist from Las Cruces, NM. His work focuses on centering lost voices with an emphasis on LGBTQIA+, Chicanx and LGBTQIA+ Chicanx voices. His works include “at the interSEXtion of being GAY and CHICANX: Un Trío de Poemas” featured in Chamisa: A Journal of Literary, Performance, and Visual Arts of the Greater Southwest and “Radical Drama as Educational Catharsis” in Luminous Literacies: Localizing Teaching and Teacher Education. shatteRED is his first major theatrical work and he is excited and honored to premiere the work in the Roadrunner NM Theater Festival. He holds an M.A, in Chicana/o/x Studies, graduate certificate in “Race” and Social Justice, B.A. in Secondary Education, and a minor in theatre from the University of New Mexico. ¡Sí Se Puede!
