Noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) has changed the prenatal screening paradigm with its power to detect more cases of fetal aneuploidy with fewer false positive results than traditional screening. Carrier screening includes an ever-growing list of recommended conditions. As a busy practitioner, it can be difficult to stay abreast of current guidelines and to ensure your patients are receiving accurate and up-to-date information, both before and after testing. During this fireside chat, we will hear from two experts about current professional society guidelines, how you can prepare your patients for screening, and how screening results can change the way you manage a pregnancy.

Prior to assuming her current role in nursing education, she was a frontline clinician in Women's Health for 30 years. Her clinical work as a midwife and women's health care nurse practitioner has encompassed prenatal care, birth care, family planning, and gynecology. She has worked with diverse populations in New York City, including HIV+ persons, diverse language speakers, and persons affected by the social disparities of health. Marianna Raia, MS, CGC (Associate Director of Programs @Expecting Health) Marianna Raia is the Associate Director of Programs at Expecting Health and the program manager for the HRSA funded Newborn Screening Family Education Program. With nearly 15 years of experience as a genetic counselor working directly with families, providers, laboratories and advocacy groups in the rare disease community, Marianna is dedicated to helping patients, providers, and families understand how genetic information can empower you to make decisions about your health and the health of your family. She is committed to improving the experiences of families on their health care journeys.
