To quote Laverne Cox, "a lot of what feminism is about is moving outside of roles and moving outside of expectations of who and what you’re supposed to be to live a more authentic life.” Despite this, feminist spaces too often remain places of tension and contention for trans folks (those whose gender is different from their sex assigned at birth). While we know that the patriarchy doesn't only target cis women, mainstream feminist causes are too often exclusionary of trans people and issues, whether intentional or not.
Why is trans-inclusive feminism so important, and what does it look like in practice? How can we better centre trans women and transfeminine folks in the pursuit of gender justice? And what does a feminist future that is truly inclusive of trans people look like? Join this panel discussion to learn more about the meaning and importance of trans-inclusive feminism - and we we need to do to get there.
Speakers include Jade Byard Peek, Lyra Evans, Fae Johnstone, and Yasmeen Persad, moderated by Debbie Owusu-Akyeeah.
