Seizure Recognition and Management for Law Enforcement Training
Organization: Epilepsy Foundation Eastern PA
Presenter: Mary Loughlin, Northeast Resource Coordinator

The Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania recognizes how important law enforcement response can be to the health and safety of people experiencing seizures. Proper training responding to a seizure is particularly important considering the likelihood of law enforcement personnel encountering such a medical event– there are nearly 3 million Americans subject to seizures caused by epilepsy. 1 in 26 individuals will have epilepsy in their lifetime. Millions more may experience one or more seizure episodes as a result of trauma or other acute illness. This training will teach law enforcement personnel how to recognize the signs and symptoms of various seizure types, the administration of proper seizure first aid, ways in which to handle epilepsy-related events, latest treatments and devices, and the unique needs of people living with epilepsy. There will be time at the end for an interactive Q&A.

For questions about the training please contact Mary Loughlin at epilepsywv@efepa.org.
