Karamu Theater, the oldest African American theater in the United States, and Loganberry Books are co-hosting an author event with Caseen Gaines, author of Footnotes. Set primarily in 1920s New York City, Footnotes is the remarkable true story of Shuffle Along and the Black artists behind the unlikely Broadway sensation that brought jazz into the mainstream and helped usher in the Harlem Renaissance.
Karamu produced a show called the Impact of Shuffle Along for Black History Month 2021. Loganberry and Karamu are enthusiastic about creating synergy around Footnote’s release on May 28th.
Aseelah Shareef, Karamu’s Director of Operations and Community Outreach, will interview Caseen.
