ICCR Webinar: Unpacking the Complexities of Intimate Partner Violence
Presented by: Sara Campos & Kristene Ruddle, Genesis Women's Shelter & Support

In Texas, 1 in 3 women will be abused by an intimate partner in her lifetime, and that abuse creates a ripple effect that can impact entire families and communities for generations. How can we, as a community, respond effectively to interrupt the cycle of abuse?

This webinar will take deep dive into the dynamics of domestic violence, teaching law enforcement, prosecutors, advocates, and community members how to safely and effectively support those experiencing violence regardless of their readiness or ability to leave an abusive relationship. The presenters will discuss the signs and symptoms verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and how to recognize the power and control that permeates every aspect of an abusive relationship. Many hard questions surrounding abuse, including “What are the barriers/challenges to leaving an abusive relationship?” and “Why does an abuser abuse?” will be answered.
