Report launch: climate change impacts on southern Africa
The Centre for Environmental Rights (CER), in partnership with the African Climate Alliance (ACA) and Vukani Environmental Movement (VEM) invite you to join the launch of two climate impact reports.

Professor Nicholas King's report explores climate impacts on youth and future generations in South Africa. This report provides an expert interpretation of several recent specialist reports on climate change with regard to impacts on lives, livelihoods and lifestyles from 2021 onwards, through 2030, 2040 and beyond, for today’s and tomorrow’s youth.

The late Professor Robert Scholes and Professor Francois Engelbrecht's report , titled "Climate impacts in southern Africa during the 21st Century", aims to explain what we mean when we talk about climate harms and threats to human rights that the 1500MW of new coal-powered electricity generation proposed by government will contribute to.

These reports are part of a series of expert reports that CER is launching in support of the #CancelCoal campaign, in which community organisations and the youth are challenging the governments proposed procurement of new coal-fired power generation.

This comes at a time when South Africa needs to urgently transition away from coal to avoid the harms of the climate crisis, further devastating health impacts to coal-affected communities and high costs to the economy.

Join us as we explore the findings on climate impacts in southern Africa and discuss what basic lifestyles and services will look like for today’s children and future generations.
