Local Resilience
As New York City honors the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy and the government pivots from evaluating climate risk to developing a comprehensive, citywide resilience plan, there is a great opportunity for the City to learn from the many communities that have already begun this work.

RPA and Rebuild by Design, in collaboration with Environmental Defense Fund and many community-led organizations, have developed an interactive mapping tool to showcase the planning and visioning efforts that have occurred since Hurricane Sandy. This first-of-its-kind tool highlights these community-informed plans and illustrates the gaps where additional focus is needed.

This discussion, moderated by Ibrahim Abdul-Matin (Urban Strategist and Co-Founder of Green Squash Consulting), will serve as an introduction to the interactive tool and will focus on the local planning efforts throughout New York City. Panelists, Ayo Harrington (Co-Chair, LES Ready!), Sonal Jessel (Director of Policy, WE ACT for Environmental Justice), and Lovinia Reynolds (Policy Planner, UPROSE) will discuss what true climate resilience means to their communities; the importance of building from local knowledge; and what the City can gain from their approach.
