The Policy Document for the Integration of a Sustainable Development Perspective into the Processes of the World Heritage Convention (UNESCO 2015) integrates the role of culture as an enabler of sustainable development across the SDGs. Since 2015, this policy seeks to contribute to the sustainable management and conservation of World Heritage.
Furthermore, it demonstrates the relevance of heritage in the achievement of the SDGs, through the inclusion of the dimensions of Sustainable Development: Environmental Sustainability, Inclusive Social Development, Inclusive Economic Development, and Fostering Peace and Security.
At OWH- Sustainability, we are conducting a participatory policy monitoring process with a case studies approach. The analysis has been based on the mentioned Policy Document, with additional sustainability criteria on tourism impact, urban growth pressure, integral ecosystems, enculturation, intangible heritage, endogenous development, income distribution, governance principles, cooperation, innovation, adaptability, and functionality, among others.
The aim of this session is to present a collection of alternative models and good practices on social inclusion and governance models identified in the case studies, in order to identify and promote sustainability strategies in the conservation and enhancement of heritage.
