Diet and Nutrition Considerations with Parkinson's Disease

Denice Hynd began here nutrition career at The University of California San Diego (UCSD) Moore’s Cancer Center where she focused her work on nutrition-based epidemiological studies on reducing the recurrence of breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. Her career has also included providing evidenced-based nutrition interventions in the treatment of residential and outpatient eating disorders, cardiac rehab, preventing Type 2 diabetes, and weight management.

As a consultant, Denice lends her time developing virtual health nutrition-based platforms, as well as auditing inmate menus for corrections, and assisted living facilities.

Denice earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition from San Diego State University, a Graduate Certificate in Dietetics from Iowa State University, a Master of Public Health from South Dakota State University, and a Graduate Certificate in Transdisciplinary Obesity Prevention from South Dakota State University. Additionally, Denice is a certified Spanish language medical interpreter.

As a volunteer, Denice and her family contribute their time to Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and she writes articles for the Parkinson’s Support Center of Northern Nevada.

For fun, she enjoys reading, gardening, paddle boarding with her two sons, and house projects with her husband.

Our webinar moderator is Mindy Lokshin, MD. Dr. Lokshin is a former family physician with multiple family members with Parkinson's disease. Together with an all-volunteer board, she founded the Parkinson Support Center of Northern Nevada in 2021 to meet the needs of the Parkinson's community. The PSCNN not only offers webinars such as this, but they also offer support groups, a mentor program and an extensive website with information and resources for people with Parkinson's disease and their families.
