From tariff reduction, trade agenda and discourse have shifted to the elimination of non-tariff measures (NTMs) to address behind-the-border trade barriers. As the country combats the pandemic under a state of calamity, it is imperative that cross-border movement of goods remains unhampered by unnecessary behind-the-border NTMs.
As part of RESPOND (Regulatory Reform Support Program for National Development) project, we now turn to NTMs on food products with a previous webinar held last August 5, 2020 on meat and processed food products.
This next webinar on NTMs affecting fishery and aquaculture-based food, the fourth forum in a series of advocacy activities organized with public and private partners aims to tackle the following objectives/concerns:
1. Find out recent changes in NTMs on fishery and aquaculture-based products in response to COVID-19 pandemic;
2. Understand the reasons that helped bring about recent changes in NTMs for fishery and aquaculture-based products;
3. Examine how critically needed NTMs are during the health crisis; an
4. Determine lessons learned from recent experience in formulating future NTMs for fishery and aquaculture-based products.
