The Massachusetts Sixpence of 1652 -- a rare archaeological find at the Alden Homesite
Join Alan Stahl, Curator of Numismatics at Princeton University, for this illustrated online presentation about the silver sixpence bearing the date 1652, found at John and Priscilla Alden's 17th century homesite in 1960. Dr. Stahl will also discuss the context of coinage and other types of money circulating in the Massachusetts colony, from its founding to the initiation of federal coinage in 1792.

A medieval historian whose specialties include coinage and monetary history and Venice, Dr. Stahl has recently published information about the discovery of a similar coin at the excavation of the Nickerson settlement site in Chatham on Cape Cod in the "Journal of Early American Numismatics."
