Advisory Committee on Transparency Sunshine Week Event

The Advisory Committee on Transparency will host a webinar event on Wednesday, March 16th, at 12:00 pm ET via Zoom. The event will bring together lawmakers and congressional experts to examine government transparency during Sunshine Week.

The event will feature opening remarks from Congressman Mike Quigley and Congressman Derek Kilmer*

Panelists include:
-Shanna Devine, Director of the House Office of the Whistleblower Ombuds
-Kate Oh, Attorney and Senior Policy Counsel at the ACLU
-Danielle Brian, Executive Director of the Project on Government Oversight
-Nick Hart, President of the Data Foundation
-Additional panelists TBD
-Moderator: Alex Howard, Co-Director of the Advisory Committee on Transparency, Director of the Digital Democracy Project at Demand Progress Education Fund

The webinar event will have panelists discuss:
-The status of current sunshine laws, including FOIA, the DATA Act, and the Evidence Act of 2019
-The impact of the pandemic and the attack on the Capitol on public access to records, data, and information.
-A call to action on proposed legislative reforms to sunshine laws, including stronger whistleblower protections and proactive disclosures for Legislative branch agency materials.
