StLGS Monthly Meeting: Veterans' Records at the National Archives at St. Louis: Understanding the 1973 NBRC Fire and its Impact on Research
The National Archives at St. Louis is home to the largest repository of government records outside Washington, D.C., including the official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs) of veterans who served during the last century. However, the aftermath of the catastrophic fire that occurred in 1973 presents a variety of challenges for researchers. We will examine the fire and the losses and myths surrounding it, as well as explore alternative records for learning more about the 20th century veterans in your family.

Eric Kilgore is an Archives Specialist with the National Archives and Records Administration. He has been with the National Archives at St. Louis since 2010, with the majority of that time working directly with the public in the Research Room. Eric holds a BA and an MA in history from the University of Missouri.
