“Systemness” is Key to Achieving and Sustaining Perioperative Quality, Operational and Financial Performance
CommonSpirit Health is well into its journey of implementing and sustaining perioperative “systemness”, the process of ensuring a reliable and comfortable experience for patients and providers across the organization. Currently, the organization has successfully established systemness across 32 of its Dignity Health locations and is expanding across the ComonSpirit system made up of 1,000 care facilities in 21 states.

Join this session to hear how CommonSpirit, in partnership with LeanTaaS, leveraged people, process and technology to establish “systemness” in perioperative services. You will also learn how clinical and administrative staff played key roles and the remarkable outcomes achieved to date - such as $11.1M additional contribution margin associated with additional case minutes performed, despite performing 40k fewer procedures during COVID.

Systemness ensures positive experiences for patients and providers alike. In the perioperative world, this entails the ability to find OR time and having the same block policy for each location and using the same metrics to measure performance can drive loyalty and increase surgical volume. Attendees will learn how CommonSpirit, as part of its work toward overall systemness, incorporated digital tools to open up OR time, manage block time and use commonly defined metrics and block policies, and how the same methods can be applied by other providers as well.
