Join JoEllen McCarthy in conversation with special guest, Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Diana Palacios as they showcase ideas using text sets to support literacy leaders. JoEllen McCarthy
JoEllen McCarthy is a lifelong learner, educator, and literacy specialist who spends her days teaching and learning alongside students, teachers, and administrators. As a literacy consultant and a Book Ambassador for The Educator Collaborative, JoEllen always connects her work to powerful picture books that honor the lived experiences of all children. She champions the power of read alouds and explores her vision for this work for teachers, families, and students in the book, Layers of Learning: Using Read Alouds to Connect Literacy and Caring Conversations.
Diana Palacios
Diana Palacios has 20 years of experience working in elementary education from prekindergarten through 5th grade. She has worked as a classroom teacher, dyslexia and reading intervention teacher, literacy coach, professional learning specialist, and currently works with curriculum and instruction in a school district in Texas. She has a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in early childhood education, and earned her Master’s in Reading and Literacy from the University of Texas San Antonio in 2009. Understanding that literacy is tied to equity, Diana is driven to help bring awareness to the importance of literacy development in the early grades. She has presented at various conferences including the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children (TAEYC), the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA), and the National At-Risk Conference.
