He went on to attend the highly competitive Cooper Union for Advancement of Art and Science in New York City. Throughout the years he has continued to hone his craft by studying with some of today’s most notable artists including Ned Jacob, Michael J. Lynch, Mark Daley, Laura Robb, William Schultz, Robert Kuester, Charles Reed, Carolyn Anderson, Mitch Billis, Scott Christensen, Matt Smith and Joshua Clare. Friedland has won numerous awards throughout his successful career including several from Oil Painters of America. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal award at OPA’s 17th Annual National Exhibition for his painting Morning in Giverny. Most recently, Friedland won the 2020 BoldBrush Competition.
