How can students find the under-reported news stories that matter to them, and turn their responses into action? In this interactive workshop, participants will learn to identify and summarize news stories they care about, make local connections to global issues, and identify potential solutions in their own communities. Students will use these skills to write persuasive letters to their representatives. This workshop prepares students to craft successful entries for the Pulitzer Center's annual fall letter-writing contest, and to see news as a way to spark and inform civic action. This workshop is open to all students, but will focus on reporting that is ideal for students in grades 9-12.
