Behavioral Health and the College Transition: What School Counselors Need to Know to Help Their Students
It is well documented that anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues among high school and college students have been on the rise in recent years, and COVID-19 has only added to this trend. Join John Achter, UWSA Student Behavioral Health Coordinator for a conversation about what school counselors need to know to help students—especially those with mental health histories—make a smooth transition to a UW System university. Attendees can expect to hear/discuss: 1) a brief review of student behavioral health trends, including changes seen during COVID-19; 2) the importance of advanced planning to enhance the chances of student success; 3) the primary resources available to address student needs and how/when to access them; and 4) setting realistic expectations about campus services and other resources to consider.
