#TradeEasier: Focus on Southern Africa
Non-tariff barriers are the main obstacles to trade between African countries. African countries could gain US$20 billion each year by tackling such barriers across the continent.

These barriers are mostly regulatory and include customs operations and border documentation requirements, lengthy customs procedures, amongst others. Micro, small and medium-sized companies, informal traders, youth and women play a crucial role in African trade but are disproportionately impacted by NTBs due to their limited resources and access to information. Although the negative impact of these measures on trade is recognised, there has been limited success in addressing them.

This event will focus on this challenge and the solutions to tackle these barriers and ensure African businesses can trade easier. Solutions, including the trade barriers platform (www.tradebarriers.africa) which allows African businesses to report, monitor and get support to resolve barriers, amongst others, will be discussed.

This webinar is part of the broader 'Trade Easier' campaign organised by the AfCFTA Secretariat, the African Union (Department of Trade and Industry), with the support of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to raise awareness about the trade barriers platform.
