Impunity for the corrupt is prevalent in Papua New Guinea, giving the impression that corruption pays. While the causes may be plentiful, and investigations done by different agencies, ultimately these corruption cases need to be brought to trial and prosecuted by the State.

However, while there are numerous instances of alleged corruption, there are rarely successful convictions.
